Oh, exploring and discovering new bars – all the glitz and glamor of Minsk with a sarcastic “Financial crisis? What crisis?”. Last time at opening of the democratic restaubar Banki-Butylki I screwed up and appeared in my kicks, while the others showed off their best outfits and complained about the absence of a red carpet, this time I have decided to put on a dress for opening of Tishe Myshi (the name means “quiet as a church mouse” in Russian). Fortunately, my instinct and some vague hints from Instagram didn’t mislead me – both the dress and the shoes were timely, and hopes for a beautiful, refined, stylish bar were fullfilled.
Tishe Myshi did not roll up loud opening with great fanfare, instead, on the door there is a shining sign saying that the bar is working in a test mode, so you can and should notify the staff about all the screwups. From the outside the bar looks perfect (I hope that the decorative stones have already been removed) – panoramic windows, above the terrace in front of the entrance – garlands of light bulbs, a picture with the name is projected onto the wall of the opposite building, which is both big and astounding.
Inside – a compilation of the best bar design from the respected places in Minsk. A u-shaped huge bar from Stirlitz, round pipes from Svobody 4, metal and wood (definitely a trend), chandeliers of impossible beauty. I have a feeling that most of the restaurants and bars in Minsk, including this one, came out of the hands of one designer. All in all, I do not want to offend anyone, especially Tishe Myshi, this bar looks like an older brother or a godfather of all the bars preaching good wine, loft and a beautiful crowd.
The kitchen in Tishe Myshi is excellent: the steak and the salad with roast beef – really splendid. It’s a bit more complicated with the cocktails. Various types of “kompot”, that “migrated” here from Stirlitz (I highly recommend to bring back the unjustly forgotten “Isaev” kompot!), are go well with food, but for them you will not go to the bar. But looking at the team gathered behind the bar – I believe that this will change, and certainly for the better. In the meantime, you can safely ask for any classics – from a God Father to Cosmopolitan – and enjoy your status and the “fashion” that the bar suggests.
Perhaps the owners of Tishe Myshi were a bit too fast with opening, there is still some kind of fuss and mess in the bar, but it will pass with time, I hope shortly after formal opening, because the place is very, very needed for this city. Why? Because it’s time for us to outgrow the puberty period denying everything that is luxurious, refined and stylish (not to be confused with kitch and overpriced), but to begin to appreciate bars and restaurant in their correct and thoughtful essence. It’s always easier to do with bars, where for 3 rubles you get drunk with limonka, but when you see the beauty of designer chandeliers and other things – for some reason, the “all bourgeois” effect starts working.
So when you want to see some beautiful people, feel a little bit better in this difficult country and just have a delicious meal and drink – Tishe Myshi is open from 12:00.
